Utilities

Our utility companies provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater and deliver natural gas, district heating and electricity. At the same time, they are working on climate adaptation to handle rising volumes of water. At LE34 we provide technical and legal advice, and together with the utilities sector we develop new digital tools that secure and streamline everyone’s supply — today and in the future.

LE34 simplifies complexity

Together with Novafos, Aarhus Vand, KCS and other utility companies, we are continuously developing innovative tools for the water, wastewater, heating and electricity supply sectors. This has resulted in, among other things, the SmartSurvey surveying app and the PointView® viewer solution, which make it easy for utility companies to reap the benefits of reality capture of 3D data and to optimise and streamline field workflows for surveying utility networks.

Now we are taking this work a step further, creating solutions that document the subsurface and help build a sustainable network of pipes and cables. Project Den Digitale Undergrund (The Digital Subsurface) — our answer to Google Maps for contractors and utility owners — is being developed to prevent excavation damage and improve safety. We received the 2023 Grunddata Award from the Danish Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure for the project.

200 years of innovation

We advise on everything from operations, maintenance and task management to expropriations and utilities law, drawing on knowledge of the utilities sector gathered over the past 200 years. A strong foundation for developing digital tools that meet new requirements and make a difference in day-to-day operations — such as AutoLER, which we developed in connection with LER 2.0 to give utility owners automatic LER responses and an overview of LER disclosures.

To remain an attractive partner that delivers efficient, quality-assured solutions, we continuously optimise our internal work processes. Integrated code and feature tables on our measuring instruments are just one example of a production setup tailored directly to utility customers.

SmartSurvey® — a small technological revolution

With the SmartSurvey app, a utility’s own staff can collect survey data themselves simply by recording a video of the excavation trench. Within an hour we turn the video into a point cloud with data that can be integrated into the utility’s network-registration systems.

Vibeke Oksby Næsby, Project Coordinator, Utility Networks – Water & Wastewater, HOFOR

“LE34 has been HOFOR’s primary supplier of surveys for the water distribution network since 2005. All partners under our framework agreement for water supply use LE34 as their data processor, simply because LE34’s employees always provide the data we need in compliance with our standard for timely supply, quality and specific data structure.”

Surveying and setting out

We handle surveys, mapping and setting-out of utilities’ distribution networks nationwide. With 24 offices across Denmark, we are always close at hand and ready to mobilise at short notice.

Legal advice

A considerable share of a utility’s work requires legal insight. We have therefore assembled the country’s leading experts in utilities law, so we can advise on establishing, rerouting and easements, and prepare authority applications, utility protocols and reports on ownership.

Landowner agreements and expropriations

Expropriations and landowner agreements are vital when utility companies need rights to inspect, maintain and install supply lines on other people’s land. This kind of activity requires very professional and coordinated contact with all affected parties, so that land and rights can be acquired smoothly and efficiently. LE34’s experts handle everything from expropriation, negotiation and dialogue to preparing area calculations and setting compensation.

Land registration

When new installations and lines are to be registered, LE34 handles the entire process from A to Z. Local teams across Denmark are available for due-diligence analysis of cadastral servitudes and easements for collation in the national land register. We provide graphic plan overviews of utilities’ rights-of-way, linked directly into the central electronic repository of the national register.

VA-banken brings together data for every type of utility and is a combined network-registration system and GIS in one. All menus and dialogues in VA-banken are in Danish.

VA-banken — tailored for utilities

Water, wastewater and district heating: get all the information about the network gathered in one place. LE34 works with the Swedish development company Aveki and is the exclusive Danish distributor of VA-banken, an exceptionally intelligent and user-friendly utility-management system.

With the system, utilities can easily access all the information about the lines buried in the ground — from an individual line’s operational status and dimensions to network registration and customer service.
