Project
Copenhagen Metro
The Metro’s new City Circle Line, Cityringen, and the South Harbour line connect all corners of the city, helping transform Copenhagen into a modern metropolis. LE34 helps unify Metroselskabet’s construction activities – we secure the legal and technical foundation.
The construction of the Copenhagen Metro is an extensive engineering project involving a wide range of technical disciplines. As a provider of surveying and land management services, we play two key roles in the construction of the new Cityring and South Harbour lines: one legal and one technical.
More metro – more metropolis
LE34’s work is an important part of the foundation that enables the other suppliers on the project to get started on their activities and ensures that the work is carried out correctly. We are also involved in collecting data to document that the new Metro stations have been constructed as designed.
Our legal skills help ensure that Metroselskabet has the necessary rights to the land on which the Metro is being built. Specifically, we handle 50% of the work involved in preparing and carrying out expropriation of the land for the Metro, calculating proposals for compensation, entering into voluntary agreements with landowners on compensation, completing land consolidation plans and cadastral procedures. We are also responsible for investigating and preparing easements for Metroselskabet – including safety easements – and we provide information about land and rights at public meetings and meetings with landowners.

Land consolidation
The name almost speaks for itself: land consolidation is about redistributing land. Yet the term says nothing about the most important part of a land consolidation process: people and respect for each other’s wishes.

Setting out
Need setting out for your project? LE34 is always ready to carry out setting out for anything from conservatories to major civil engineering works. Whether you need a rapid response or a planned procedure, we are ready with coordinates and levels when every tolerance must be met.
-
Monitoring 24/7
LE34 has long been at the forefront of monitoring large building and civil engineering projects. We offer a complete range of monitoring services, including conventional monitoring, deformation monitoring, geotechnical monitoring, and noise and vibration monitoring.
-
Establishment of a control point network
Need control points established? LE34 has some of the country’s most skilled chartered land surveyors and surveying technicians, ready to establish control points and calculate coordinates for terrain, roads and buildings, ensuring an accurate basis for your project.
-
As-built documentation
As-built documentation shows you the project as delivered, down to every point in the point cloud. It documents whether you, as the client, have received what you ordered from your contractor. It also facilitates handover between contractors. In short, it is an important full stop or comma in your construction project, and LE34 is ready to add it for you.

Minus 24 degrees
LE34 was the surveying consultant on the spectacular, icy-cold construction of the Metro’s underground stairway from Købmagergade to Nørreport Station. To prevent groundwater from flooding into the stairwell during the work, the entire area was frozen to minus 24 degrees. LE34 monitored the project around the clock to ensure that the area remained frozen and stable enough for the stairway to be built.
Monitoring as insurance
Due to our extensive experience with complex technical projects, we are also involved in securing the technical foundation for the Metro construction by establishing the control point network. The excavation and drilling contractors set out their work based on the control points established by LE34; a control point network is an indispensable foundation for any building and construction work.
Another of our technical tasks is to provide Metroselskabet with the tools needed to check and assess whether the Metro work is causing damage to surrounding buildings. Before excavation began, we created a baseline by measuring the deformations that occurred in nearby buildings under normal conditions. With this baseline in place, Metroselskabet can assess whether any damage that appears during the construction period is caused by the Metro works.
We have therefore carried out extensive deformation surveys at locations including Gammel Strand, the Marble Church and Kongens Nytorv. As surveying consultant to Metroselskabet, we also checked whether the contractors’ monitoring during the construction work was technically adequate and able to register any damage to surrounding buildings and stop the work before the damage developed.

LE34 has been involved in the work on the Copenhagen Metro from the very earliest stages of planning through to the construction work, and we will continue to be involved up to the final cadastral procedures after the first Metro trains begin running on the two new lines – Cityringen and the South Harbour line.
LE34 has also made its mark on the existing Metro lines from Vanløse to Vestamager and from Vanløse to Copenhagen Airport. As a consultant to the Ørestad Development Corporation, we were responsible for cadastral procedures, preparation of easements and surveying consultancy services – including inspection and 24/7 monitoring of the entire tunnel section.

In projects like these, it is essential to understand and respect the concerns of neighbours so that the project is properly coordinated and remains on schedule. We work hard to ensure that all parties feel informed and heard, and that everyone understands the need for the various measures taken during the expropriation process and construction period.
